A few words from our tutor on what you can expect from this course

Course Description

• Benefits of AI for Construction - Project planning and Controls • Where Can AI Reliably Automate or Accelerate Repetitive, Time-Consuming Tasks & Improve Performance • Boost Productivity

This course is for professionals across the built environment who want to understand how AI can be applied safely, responsibly and profitably across construction workflows. From project planning, cost estimation, safety management and BIM coordination to quality control, predictive analytics and decision-making. The course agenda will demonstrate how AI can reduce project delays, minimise duplication of work and improve safety outcomes. Attendees will gain practical insight into tools and approaches already delivering measurable return on investment – particularly through time saving, improved review processes, risk identification and better-informed decision-making.

This course provides a practical, executive-level overview of how AI is being applied across construction today. Examples are explored across different disciplines (commercial, delivery, design and management), with the emphasis on understanding value, limitations, governance, and realistic application rather than detailed software training for any single role.

Topics

  • What is AI in Construction?
  • Benefits and Challenges of AI in Construction
  • Ethics, Risks & Responsible AI in Construction
  • Understanding the EU AI Act 2025: Construction Compliance & Safety Regulations
  • AI in Practice – Construction Industry Cases
    • AI-assisted project planning and schedule risk analysis
    • Safety monitoring and incident prevention

  • Safety & Risk Management - Computer vision for PPE Compliance and hazard detection
  • AI for project controls - supporting cost, schedule and risk decision
  • AI Agents for AEC executives – Concepts, examples and roadmap

    • This section focuses on understanding agent-based workflows and phased adoption, rather than building or deploying production agents during the course
    • Brief intro to agents vs. single-prompt chats
    • Example agent workflows across BIM, QA, and site ops
    • Executive considerations: governance, data access, ROI, and pilot design
  • AI in Action – Using AI with BIM data – Coordinating support, QA review, data extraction, reporting and dashboards

  • Reviewing quantity information and coordination issues using AI-assisted
  • Data Security and confidentiality
  • Drone data & site monitoring
  • Equipment maintenance/ predictive analytics (incl. defect prediction)
  • Case studies - Irish companies utilising AI

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for construction professionals and managers who want a clear, practical understanding of how AI is being used across the construction sector today. It is particularly suited to:

  • Quantity Surveyors and commercial professionals interested in how AI can support cost analysis, tender review, risk identification, and reporting
  • Project and construction managers looking to use AI to support planning insight, issue tracking, and day-to-day decision-making
  • Engineers, architects, and BIM professionals who want to understand how AI can assist with quality checks, coordination review, and working with BIM data
  • Senior managers and directors responsible for AI governance, risk, compliance, and strategic adoption within their organisations

The course focuses on practical use cases, real-world examples, and where AI can add value today, rather than technical development or programming.

Who This Course Is Not For

This course is not intended as:

  • Advanced training on specialist estimating, scheduling, or engineering software
  • A programming or coding course

Commonly Asked Questions

How is artificial intelligence used in the construction sector?

AI is used to support tasks such as document handling, reporting, data analysis and administrative efficiency in construction environments.

Why does AI adoption raise specific issues in construction?

Construction projects involve contractual risk, regulatory requirements and reliance on accurate information, making AI use sensitive.

What risks are associated with AI use in construction?

Risks include inaccurate outputs, data protection concerns and inappropriate reliance on automated tools.

Why is oversight important when using AI on projects?

AI tools do not replace professional judgement and require human review to manage risk effectively.

How does this course relate to AI in construction?

This course examines the use of AI tools within a construction and project delivery context.
