A few words from our tutor on what you can expect from this course

Course Description

AI adoption in Irish construction is accelerating — but most firms are stuck between awareness and action. 92% of Irish organisations are now using or planning to use AI, yet only 10% describe themselves as advanced. 68% of businesses cite lack of skills and training as the single biggest barrier.

This one-day workshop closes that gap. Updated for October 2026 with the latest developments — including the EU AI Act now in force, AI agents connecting directly to project platforms, and new case studies from firms already seeing measurable return — this course is built around the work you actually do.

Attendees work in role-based groups (project management, BIM/design, or QS/commercial), using real construction workflows with hands-on AI tools. You will build prompts, test outputs against your own sanitised project documents, and leave with a concrete 90-day pilot plan for your firm.

This course is incredibly practical, every module is grounded in workflows that project managers, QS professionals, architects, engineers, and construction leaders use every day.

Topics

Morning Session

  • AI in construction without the nonsense —where adoption stands in 2026, what’s real, what’s hype, and why this year is different
  • Where AI creates value right now —real workflows across disciplines
  • EU AI Act & responsible AI in construction — what’s now enforceable
  • Hands-on practical lab: AI for construction documentation
  • AI for project controls — scheduling, risk, and decision support

Afternoon Session

  • AI Agents for construction leaders and teams
  • Site intelligence — quality control, drone data, and site monitoring
  • BIM and digital workflow automation
  • Workshop: Build your 90-day AI pilot
  • Case studies — firms already deploying AI in construction

What's new for Oct 2026?

  • EU AI Act is now enforceable — the August 2026 main compliance deadline has passed. Updated coverage of what this means in practice for Irish construction firms, including the new AI Office of Ireland.
  • AI Agents and connected tools — AI can now interact directly with BIM models, project platforms, and document environments. Autodesk, Trimble, and others are shipping agent-capable products. This is no longer a future topic.
  • Role-based breakout workshops — attendees work in PM, BIM/Design, or QS/Commercial groups on exercises matched to their daily workflows.
  • Hands-on format — participants use AI tools on real construction tasks during the session, not just watch demonstrations.
  • Updated case studies — new examples from Autodesk DevCon 2026, ATN London, and recent industry acquisitions including Trimble’s acquisition of Document Crunch.
  • 90-day pilot plan — every attendee leaves with a structured plan for piloting AI in their role or organisation.

Pre-requisites

To get the most from this workshop, attendees should prepare the following before the session:

  • Create a free account on claude.ai and confirm you can log in
  • Bring a laptop and charger
  • Bring 1–2 sanitised project files (meeting notes, reports, tenders, programmes — with client names, pricing, and personal data removed)
  • Have 2–3 workflows in mind where AI might help in your role
  • Be prepared to work hands-on — you will test AI on real tasks, not just watch

Detailed preparation instructions will be sent to registered attendees in advance of the course.

Who Should Attend

This course is for construction professionals who know AI is relevant but haven’t yet embedded it in their day-to-day work. It is designed as a practical workshop, not an awareness lecture.

It is particularly suited to:

  • Project managers and construction managers who want to use AI for reporting, programme analysis, meeting actions, and project controls — not just search engines
  • Quantity surveyors and commercial professionals looking at AI for tender review, scope analysis, BoQ interrogation, variation support, and contract risk
  • Architects, engineers, and BIM professionals who want to understand how AI connects to model data, coordination workflows, and quality assurance
  • Directors and senior managers responsible for AI governance, EU AI Act compliance, and deciding where to invest in AI adoption

The course focuses on practical use cases, real-world examples, and where AI can add value today, rather than technical development or programming.

This course is not intended as:

  • Advanced training on specialist estimating, scheduling, or engineering software
  • A programming or coding course
  • Detailed instruction on building or configuring AI systems
  • A product demo or vendor pitch

Participants looking for deep technical or software-specific AI training may be better suited to bespoke, in-house courses.

Certification

On completion of this one-day training course, you will receive your Professional Certificate. Please note certificates are issued at the close of the training course to participants on completion of the course.

This course may qualify for CPD points. Please check directly with your association or awarding body to see how many points they will award.

Commonly Asked Questions

How is artificial intelligence used in the construction sector?

AI is used to support tasks such as document handling, reporting, data analysis and administrative efficiency in construction environments.

Why does AI adoption raise specific issues in construction?

Construction projects involve contractual risk, regulatory requirements and reliance on accurate information, making AI use sensitive.

What risks are associated with AI use in construction?

Risks include inaccurate outputs, data protection concerns and inappropriate reliance on automated tools.

Why is oversight important when using AI on projects?

AI tools do not replace professional judgement and require human review to manage risk effectively.

How does this course relate to AI in construction?

This course examines the use of AI tools within a construction and project delivery context.
