About this Conference

This year's conference will provide guidance on flood management in Ireland from a number of different angles. We will examine key challenges over the past 12 months, through some practical and interesting case studies. We will look at innovations in flood modelling and forecasting, including early warning systems, and we will discuss common misconceptions regarding multi-functional SuDS in Dublin, and practical guidance on what you should consider when designing. We will also look at how to address flood risk management, river restoration and the water framework agenda in the face of climate change.

This is a must-attend event for anyone involved in flood management, particularly engineers, consultants, civil contractors, local authorities, planners, surveyors, semi state bodies to name a few.

This Conference is a unique live virtual event from our own custom-built CMG Studios. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising the additional interactive elements, as well as increased Q&A opportunities throughout the day, giving you more opportunity to gain real practical insights on the key issues that are important to you.

Agenda

Conference Chairperson & Opening Remarks

Using data to assess, analyse and forecast retrofit stock potential

  • The challenges and where we are
  • The actual performance of retrofit and nZEB houses compared with the projected performance
  • Overall energy performance and the performance of the building itself
  • Do the buildings lose more or less heat than the predictions indicate?

Dr.Shane Colclough Research Fellow,University College Dublin, and Principal, Energy Expertise Ltd

Fire Safety-How this differs in Retrofit Projects

  • Legislative requirements when upgrading buildings for fire safety
  • Fire risk assessments for existing buildings
  • The differences between new and existing builds

Dr.Victor Hrymak, Lecturer in Environmental Health and Safety, TU Dublin

Renewable Systems for nZEB Homes

Padraic O' Reilly Researcher at LIT, DevelopmentUnit

The role of one-stop-shops and digitalisation in upscaling energy upgrade in housing

  • The role of the residential sector in achieving ambitious decarbonisation targets for 2030, in terms of heat supply
  • Update on Government's energy renovation target and programmes, progress so far with a particular focus on the social housing sector
  • The 'one-stop-shop' model to upscale energy upgrade of Ireland's housing stock
  • The role of digitalisation in empowering energy upgrade 'one-stop-shops' to increase productivity, ensure quality outcomes and reduce costs.

Xavier Dubuisson, Founder, RetroKit

Closing the skill gaps- What Skills are needed for the nZEB standard

  • Many construction workers are not up to date on latest high performance building technology- how does this need to change?
  • Those operating in the construction industry need to know what required and how to deliver high quality at a reasonable cost.
  • There is an incredible shortage of skilled labour to uptake positions in the construction industry, for both new-build and retrofit. How is this being addressed?
  • Upskilling that is being delivered at the new centres of excellence and the role such training might provide in  upscaling the ambitious Government retrofit targets.
