This instructor led course is designed to introduce project planning best practices and how the MS Project application can be used to apply them. The objective of this course is that users of the software can apply it as a powerful tool to assist in the creation, development, and communication of project plans. These scheduling skills can be used in a variety of industries including Construction, Manufacturing, BioPharmaChem ,Government, Retail, Financial Services and Health Care.

Prerequisites
- Delegates should have the full version of MS Project Professional Desktop Client installed. This can be the Project Online Desktop client or the stand alone Desktop Client.
- Delegates should be PC literate, i.e., familiar with PC’S/Laptops and have used a mouse and keyboard; be able to launch and close programs; navigate to information stored on the computer; manage files and folders and be comfortable using MS Office applications such as MS Excel, MS Word etc.

- Fundamental importance of defining – and agreeing – project scope
- Developing a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to define project scope
- Creating a schedule based on the WBS
- Understanding Task dependencies
- Dynamic Scheduling – setting ‘Auto Scheduled’ mode
- Recommended commands for the Quick Access Toolbar
Module 2: Developing a Project Schedule
- Setting the Start/Finish Date, working with the Standard Calendar
- Entering Tasks
- Creating Recurring Tasks (e.g. progress or review meetings) and milestones
- Defining Task Dependencies
- Working with Task Information – specifying Notes, Deadlines and Constraints
- Setting the project Baseline
- Applying Views – working with the Critical Path and Float / Slack
Module 3: Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
- Replicate a Work Breakdown Structure in MS Project
Module 4: Simple Communication Techniques
- Standard printing, saving as a PDF
- Working with an exporting the timeline
- Using the Copy Picture command
Module 5: Working with Resources
- Creating a Resource Pool
- Assigning Resources to project tasks
- Understanding Effort Driven and Non-Effort Driven scheduling
