Course Description

This instructor led course is designed to introduce project planning best practices and how the MS Project application can be used to apply them. The objective of this course is that users of the software can apply it as a powerful tool to assist in the creation, development, and communication of project plans. These scheduling skills can be used in a variety of industries including Construction, Manufacturing, BioPharmaChem, Government, Retail, Financial Services and Health Care.

On leaving this Master Class, delegates will be armed with the practical skills associated with the planning aspects of the software.

All attendees will get a chance to engage in an informative Q&A session.

Prerequisites

Delegates should have the full version of MS Project Professional Desktop Client installed. This can be the Project Online Desktop client or the stand alone Desktop Client.

Delegates should be PC literate, i.e., familiar with PC’S/Laptops and have used a mouse and keyboard; be able to launch and close programs; navigate to information stored on the computer; manage files and folders and be comfortable using MS Office applications such as MS Excel, MS Word etc.

  • The project lifecycle and project phases
  • Fundamental importance of defining – and agreeing – project scope
  • Developing a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to define project scope
  • Creating a schedule based on the WBS
  • Understanding Task dependencies
  • Dynamic Scheduling –setting ‘Auto Scheduled’ mode
Module 2: Developing a project schedule
  • Setting the Start/Finish Date
  • Working with the Standard Calendar
  • Adding a new calendar with non-working time
  • Entering High Level Summary Tasks
  • Introducing the Gantt Chart
  • Creating Recurring Tasks (e.g. progress or review meetings)
  • Milestones
Module 3: Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Create Sub Tasks
  • Defining Task Dependencies
  • Lag and lead Times
  • Critical Path
  • Task Information – Notes, Deadlines and Constraints
  • Setting the project Baseline
  • Updating Tasks
Module 4: Printing Gantt Charts and exporting information to other applications

(MS Word, MS PowerPoint)

Module 5: Working with Resources
  • Creating a Resource Pool
  • Assigning Resources to project tasks
  • Understanding Effort Driven and Non-Effort Driven scheduling
  • Working with Resource Calendars

Certification

On completion of this one-day training course, you will receive your Certificate of Attendance. Please note certificates are issued at the close of the training course to participants on completion of the course.

Cost
